Betty Bossi's Potatoes au Gratin (Kartoffelgratin Spezial)

These potatoes are a great comfort food when the weather is cold. This recipe comes from a Swiss cookbook and is very easy to make. The ingredients are simple and most people I know love potato dishes, so it's also a crowd pleaser. It tastes best out of the oven since the top layer of potatoes will have a slightly crunchy crust on top. Some people like to sprinkle cheese over the final layer of potatoes, but you can do whatever you prefer.

Recipe from Betty Bossi's Kochen für Gäste

3 pounds potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 cm slices
5 garlic cloves, minced
salt and pepper, to season
nutmeg, to season
16 ounces whipping cream

Preheat your oven to 390ºF/200ºC. Mix the potatoes with the garlic. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Place the sliced potatoes in a single layer in a baking dish (I used 9"x13", but smaller would be fine too). Sprinkle with some of the salt mixture. Continue making layer and sprinkling them with salt until you use up all the potatoes. Pour the cream over the potatoes. Bake the potatoes for 1 hour to 1 1/4 hours, until the potatoes are cooked and the top is slightly browned. Pin It Now!

  1. Hi. Yes,
i am using pretty well the same recipe as above. Bt to pep it up a bit I mix a 3 ounce Glass of dry white wine with a tea spoon of cornstarch with the cream and cover the potatoes with a halve inch of Vacherin or Appenzeller cheese. MHMHM ever soooo GOOD.
