Death by Chocolate
This is one of those really rich desserts that lives up to its title. I don't normally use cake mixes, but this was a last minute request by a friend. The recipe is easy to make and is definitely a crowd pleaser. If you don't like using cool whip, you can substitute whipped cream. Feel free to add more toffee if you like it, which is what I did. You can make this in a trifle dish or a smaller punch bowl.
Recipe from a family friend
1 boxed chocolate cake mix
1 16 ounce container of cool whip
2 packs of instant chocolate pudding mix
12 ounces of toffee, crushed into small pieces (I use a skor bar)
Bake the cake according to the instructions in a 9"x13" pan, then allow it to cool. In the meantime, make the pudding according to the directions.
When cooled, cut the cake into thirds. Take one of the thirds, cut it into cubes and place them on the bottom of a trifle dish or small punch bowl. Top with 1/3 of the pudding. Top with 1/3 of the cool whip, followed by 1/3 of the toffee pieces. Repeat these layers with the remaining ingredients. Refrigerate until your serve. Pin It Now!
