5 Layer Dip

Five layer dip is one of those tried and tested appetizers that I have loved for decades. You can easily put your own spin on it by adding additional items (I sometimes like to add black olives) and adjusting the amount of each layer to meet your preferences. I tend to love a lot of guacamole and sour cream, but I kept the ratios a little more traditional in this recipe. This is a very easy dip to whip together, and you can cheat by using pre-made guacamole to make it even simpler.

1 15.5 ounce can refried beans
3/4 teaspoon cumin
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 cup guacamole (pre-made or recipe here)
1 cup sour cream
3/4 cup shredded cheese (I use a Mexican blend)
2-3 green onions, thinly sliced
1 large tomato, chopped
1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)

Mix the refried beans with the cumin and chili powder. Spread the beans in the bottom of a 10" deep dish pan or a medium bowl. Next evenly spread the guacamole in one a layer. Add the sour cream in one layer. Top with the cheese, followed by the tomatoes, onions and olives (if using). Serve with tortilla chips.
