Easy Baked Apples

With the fall weather upon us, apple desserts are back in full swing. This recipe is easy and does not require any fancy baking skills and is best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Recipe from Inspired Taste

4 medium firm apples (Honeycrips and Fuji wok well)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, divided
1/2 cup (100 grams) brown sugar, plus one tablespoon for apples
1 stick (113 grams) unsalted butter
3/4 cups (98 grams) all purpose flour
3/4 cups (84 grams) old fashioned oats
1/8 teaspoon salt
vanilla ice cream, to serve (optional)
Caramel sauce, to serve (optional)

Preheat over to 375F/190C. Grease a baking dish that can fit 8 apple halves.

Cut each apple in half. Remove stem, core and seeds. Arrange in baking sheet, cut side up, and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

Make the topping by meting the butter in a pan. Mix in the remaining brown sugar, flour, oats, salt and remaining 1/3 teaspoon cinnamon.

Split the topping evenly among the apple and lightly press on to the apple. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Uncover and bake 20-30 more minutes, until the topping has browned and apples are soft.

If using, serve with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
